Travel is the change in location of people on a trip through the means of transport from one location to another. Travel is most commonly for recreation (as part of tourism or to visit friends and family), for business or for commuting; but may be for numerous other reasons, such as migration, fleeing war, etc. Travel may occur by walking or human-powered mode, or through mechanical vehicles, either as private or public transport.

Travel may be local, regional, national or international. In some countries, non-local internal travel may require an internal passport, while international travel typically requires a passport and visa.

The word originates from the Middle English word travailen ("to toil"), which comes from the Anglo-French word travailler ("travail"). A person who travels is called a traveler (US) or traveller (UK).

For travel between Germany and Switzerland should I buy a eurail pass?
Q. I'm planning to travel between Switzerland and Germany in Sept. My plan is to visit about 7 cities in 10 days, is it better to buy the eurail pass or buy individual tickets?
Asked by Amy H - Fri Jul 3 16:09:15 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It is often cheaper to buy individual tickets rather than a Eurail pass. Especially, if you'll be taking the faster trains that require an extra reservation/supplemental fee and/or are able to take advantage of discounts by buying individual tickets in advance. There's information on supplements here: and: and: You can check the prices for individual tickets at: (Germany) , (Switzerland) You just need to put together your tentative itinerary and check the different trains. Add up the prices for the individual tickets and compare to the price of the pass plus all required supplements. This site is an excellent resource for train travel in Europe:

How to travel cheap around Europe via Train?
Q. I'm planning to travel to Switzerland, Austria and Czech Rep this summer via train from UK. One of the cheapest options is to buy the Global Pass, which is only for European residents. However I'm not a European resident, which means that I need to find another cheap options to travel. Can anyone give any suggestions?

A. The global Interrail pass is for European residents. The global Eurail pass is for non-European residents. So look at Eurail passes, but take into account that Czech Republic and the Eurostar are not part of the Eurail pass. I personally would fly from the UK to Switzerland and from Prague to the UK. For Czech Republic I would by point-to-point tickets, for Switzerland and Austria I would compare point-to-point with national rail passes. See www.whichbudget.com for flights

What is the safest, most convenient way to travel from Vellore to Chennai in the evening hours?
Q. I need to be traveling to Anna Nagar (I think this is near the airport and not near Chetpet) after reaching Chennai, so I am a bit concerned about safe travel for a female in these late evening hours. Also, I would like some idea about fares--autor, taxi in these evening hours because I know Chennai auto drivers often do not have metres and quarrel with passengers, especially non-native ones. Also, which is safer--auto or taxi, for a single female in the night?
