Ebay auctions-- bids towards the end?
Q. When selling items on eBay, when is the time when you normally see bids? Is it when the auction is close to being done? (I am selling off my daughters old infant clothes that she's now grown out of...This is my first time selling on eBay) Does the product have anything to do with it? All my products are listed from .10 to 6.99 (for a large lot of clothes) by no means are these purchase prices.

A. l do a lot of selling and buying on e-bay. When l'm buying l will bid on items early just to get them on my "items l'm bidding on" list, it reminds me then to keep an eye on them, but then l don't bid again till near the end, normally a few seconds before, if you bid too early it tends to bump the price up, because others who are bidding will start to bid again. With items l'm selling it varies, sometimes bidding will start early and carry on all the way, but other times it's not till the end. l do think it depends a lot on what your selling, the more in demand the item, obviously the more people are watching and likely to bid. lt's sometimes wiser to start the item at a price you would be happy selling it for, because if only one… [cont.]

What is the best strategy for unique bid auctions?
Q. I bought a link to the following site off of Ebay: It looks really interesting-- the guy's Ebay feedback indicated that some of his buyers have had success winning XBoxes, PSP's, PS3's, etc. However, I just can't accept the fact that there's no strategy to it. This particular blind auction site tells you if your bid is unique, duplicated, or the highest unique bid. It costs roughly 10 bucks per bid. Any suggestions for the best way to go about bidding? I would LOVE to get an XBOX 360 for $200, and it seems feasible if I win within 20 bids...
Asked by ~*Stephanie S - Sun Dec 17 14:45:11 2006 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It looks like you have a 1 in 200 chance of winning an x-box. The expected cost to get this is approximately $2,000. Not a good deal. A cool concept I admit, but not necessarily a good deal.

What do you do when only one person bids at your auction and the object sells for the starting bid on ebay?
Q. This is my first time selling on ebay. I'm selling a game and the starting bid is 1 euro (no reserve). I'm just wondering if e.g. if only one person bids at my auction, and the auction ends with only one bidder that has bid the same as the starting price? What do you do then? Do you have to sell the object for 1 euro? Is tere anything you can do to prevent this?
Asked by I like Pie - Sun Mar 16 04:57:04 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You contact the bidder and make arrangements for the transaction. In other words, you follow through with the sales agreement. In future, set your beginning bid at the lowest price for which you are happy to sell the item, or else place a reserve for the same.

How fast does ebay process its "automatic" bids?
Q. For example, say someone has posted a highest bid of $50 but the current high bid for the item is still sitting at $40 because no one else has bid any higher. If I come along with only 30 seconds remaining in the auction and bid $45, will I win or will ebay quickly calculate that the $50 bid should get it?
Asked by city_savvy - Sun Feb 10 20:36:45 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It does it instantly, you can't beat it except by out bidding the person who put in the automatic bid or putting one in yourself, you probably can't respond fast enough to see the result. If someone is willing to pay more than you, the bid process will continue.

What happens in Monopoly when someone bids on an auctioned property but doesn't have enough money?
Q. Hi, yeah, what happens when someone bids but doesn't have enough money in there hand to pay for it? But, they do have a house that would make them able to afford it if they sold it what would happen?
Asked by Alec W - Sat Apr 5 18:31:39 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. If they can come up with the money either by selling a house or mortgaging property, then that is what they MUST DO!!! The official rules don't really cover that aspect of the game, but if someone bid on a property and has "Some Way" of paying... then they have to pay... The NEXT question would be... what if they didn't have enough cash to cover their bid and also didn't have any other way of getting money??? Then, I would say, that their bid doesn't count and the person with the last highest bid would get the property. Okay... If you want to follow what it says in the "Official Monopoly Tournament Rules"... it says that if a player wins an auction and cannot pay, the auction is void!! The auction is then held again, BUT the… [cont.]

What were the final 7 bids on Chris Evans' Ferrari auction?
Q. On Chris Evans' Radio 2 show on Thursday there was an auction that involved the opportunity to drive 7 of the best Ferraris in the world. I know the total raised on Chris' show was approximately 465k, but does anyone know what the individual bids were by the top 7 as I can't find that information on the Radio 2 site?

What s the real deal on home auctions are they really legitimate?
Q. I ran into a decent amount of money and wanted to buy my 1st home. My credit was damaged last year so I know I won t be qualified for a great mortgage right now. My aunt mentioned that I should go to a house auction because the deals are better, and I would just pay for it cash. What are some of the things to watch out for when buying a home from an auction? Are there any major $ surprises after winning a bid? Which auction websites are legitimate?
Asked by Got Stronger - Mon Feb 25 14:57:52 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Stay away from auctions - they're for experienced investors with money to risk. Find an experienced Realtor you can trust. Ask people you know to recommend some. Let your Realtor know what your needs are and what kinds of fix-ups you can do. There are lots of houses on the market that are good deals. Some are owned by people who live in them, some are owned by banks or VA or HUD. With a little time on your hands (not needing a house by lease-end date), you can watch and jump on a good deal when it happens.

A. I don't think "Shill" is quite right. A shill is someone that goes to an auction and bids against people to drive the price up. But its not limited to auctions. I think what you are looking for is a "buyer by proxy" or just a "proxy" Definition as per wikipedia: Proxy may refer to one who or that which acts on behalf of someone or something else, as in

Any advice on biding on a house for auction by a builder? What do bids normally start at/ around?
Q. nice neighborhood. builder is auctioning multiple properties. i believe is in trouble financially because no houses are selling now.
Asked by j - Thu Mar 13 21:09:44 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Before even deciding on a price I would want to know if the local zoning authority had already issued a CofA (certificate of occupancy). That means the house is safe to inhabit. You won't be able to move in without one. I would also want to know if these houses are fully complete or as is. This really would influence what I would bid. How much is not knowing if your builder would be in business in 6 months be worth (as a discount). Can you get a home inspection before the auction? Walk-through? Anything? I would be a little leery, but certainly curious. good luck!

How come people use Ebay auctions but not yahoo auctions to buy Best buy Gift cards?
Q. I was selling a $500 best buy gift card on yahoo auctions for less than $435 but no one bid on it, but on ebay people bid $445+ for it. The reason I don't use ebay is cuz I take the $14 fee. Why is that people don't bid on yahoo auctions even I'm also accepting paypal??
Asked by fantasy209 - Mon Jan 15 22:38:47 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Because Yahoo does not have as strict seller requirements and there are much much more fraudulent sales on Yahoo. It is also not as popular and you do not have as many people see your auction listing. I do not trust Yahoo auctions at all and that is why I do not bid there. Even though Ebay can be a pain and there are crooks on it, it is better at this point than Yahoo.

A. You will be notified by Ebay Immediately that you are the Winning Bidder for the Item & You will have the Option to Pay for The Item at that time. You must Complete Checkout & Pay For The Item Before The Seller Will Send you the Item You Won. Depending on the Seller's Policy (some require immediate payment) usually you have Up to 7 days to pay for the item using Paypal. You then go to your Paypal account to pay for the item you won. This is Ebay's new rule as of Oct 1, 08. You have to pay through Paypal. If you do not have a Paypal Account then you must open up one in order to do business on Ebay. The Seller will then get a Email from paypal showing you paid for the item and the information you registered through paypal with is what the… [cont.]

A. Hundreds of thousands of used car dealers make their living that way today. It costs a lot of money to get started in the business (just like it does to start any small business) but the potential for profit is always there. You must be a certified dealer in order to do this, you can't just start buying cars one day and call yourself a car dealer. You must go through the proper channels and get licensed like every small business does.
